In 2000, we were honoured to aquire the Melbourne H. Bryce collection from his daughter. It consists of over 250 glass slides, many hand coloured. A school teacher by profession and principal of King George Public School on St. Johns Rd. for 19 years, he was also a photographer as a hobby. He used many of his own photos, as well as others from other sources including fellow photographers, City libraries and archives, to create his own travelling show. In 1954, Major J. C. Boylen, secretary of the Ontario Historical Society published "York Township - An Historical Summary 1850-1954." Fully half of the 116-page book is filled with photos from the Bryce Collection. One can now see the pictures colourized for Bryce as only black and white images were used in the publication.
