Heritage York is a non-profit corporation formed in 1991 as a result of concerns about the future of Lambton House. The initial membership consisted of a number of local citizens as well as concerned members of the City of York LACAC. The founding members included: Michael Freeman, Florence McDowell, Mary Louise Ashbourne and Dan Harris. The prime objective of Heritage York is:

The preservation and restoration of the historic fabric of the City of York

On November 23, 1991, Heritage York became incorporated through association with the Ontario Historic Society and subsequently applied for, and received, charitable status, both Provincial and Federal.

Heritage York raises its funds through a wide variety of means: barbeques, community pub nights, heritage nights and numerous other community-based projects. Heritage York holds an annual fund-raising dinner/dance, around Valentine's weekend, at the Lambton House. For many years, Heritage York was a major participant in the July 1st celebrations at City of York City Hall. Since the City has discontinued these celebrations, we have had immensely successful events on site. Due to the input of the many attendees at these many events, we are accumulating stories of the community to be included in a special book. The core consists of 6 or so dedicated volunteers with assistance from various businesses in the area. We have managed to raise in excess of $160,000 for the initial restoration of the Lambton.
